Autotrader and Cox Automotive required compelling visual storytelling for the future of automotive purchasing. Partnering with Sweeney & Sons, I was brought in to design extensive visual elements—a role that perfectly matched my passion for comprehensive project involvement.

As Creative Director, I collaborated across multiple disciplines with exceptionally talented compositors while working closely with Sweeney & Sons' ownership. This intensive collaborative effort not only delivered exceptional results but established new creative standards for future Autotrader video content, making it one of the most rewarding projects of my career.

Making It Believable and Usable

To modernize dated car interiors with plausible futuristic functionality, I employed strategic Photoshop techniques combined with 3D integration to design custom console systems. This hybrid approach allowed me to seamlessly blend existing vehicle architecture with forward-thinking interface designs, creating believable technological upgrades that enhanced the automotive buying narrative.

Holograms are Awesome

This project provided the perfect opportunity to explore one of my favorite aesthetics - holographic interfaces. Our philosophy was simple: why shouldn't a countertop feature sophisticated FUI and holographic elements? We were convinced it should, and fortunately, the client enthusiastically agreed with our vision for elevated technological integration.

Antennas & Signals

I dedicated several weeks exclusively to Adobe Illustrator, developing extensive iterations for the buying signals narrative. Beyond aesthetic appeal, the challenge involved strategically designing animations and visuals that would effectively communicate Autotrader's car buying experience and demonstrate how their data collection enhances the customer journey. Each iteration required balancing visual impact with clear storytelling that illuminated the platform's sophisticated shopper assistance capabilities.

Early Stage Design Explorations

This represents my creative sweet spot—the uninhibited discovery phase where every idea has merit, no exploration feels wasteful, and nothing becomes too precious to abandon. These selected examples barely scratch the surface of our extensive exploration process. While clients occasionally glimpsed this work, it primarily served our internal creative discovery, helping us identify and refine the piece's emotional tone and visual direction.
